10 Things for Teens to Do During the Summer

Now that school is out, students are generally left with the question: What should I do today? Often, the solution involves a lot of scrolling and maybe a brief intermission for snacks. This is no way to spend the summer, so here’s a list of fun things to do; hopefully they’ll combat the boredom!

.

  • Have a Beach Day

If you’ve got your license, get a group of friends together and head down to Galveston (or South Padre if you’re feeling adventurous). There are plenty of things to do on the beach! Spend a day building sandcastles, boogie boarding, and tanning on the sand.

.

  • Ride a Rollercoaster

This one is for the braver readers, but anyone can have fun at an amusement park. Take a day trip to Six Flags or Pleasure Pier and try to go on every ride. If heights aren’t your thing, play some carnival games and take lots of pictures!

.

  • Go River Tubing

Float down the Guadalupe or Comal River with friends or family. This one will take a bit of planning, but it’s definitely worth it! Kayaking or paddle boarding down Spring Creek is also an option. Just make sure the water isn’t too low.

.

  • See a Drive-In Movie

A classic summer night activity that never gets old. Find the nearest drive-in theater and pick a showing time; some options in the area include Moonstruck and Showboat theaters. Bring plenty of snacks and a blanket and enjoy!

.

  • Host a Bonfire Night

If you or a friend has a firepit, invite plenty of people and have a bonfire party.  It’s a great way to get to know a lot of people and have a good time! Roast s’mores, tell stories, and sing songs together.

.

  • Go on a Lake Picnic

This is the perfect date idea or a cute hangout with friends. Dress up and bring a basket with food and cool drinks, and pick a spot in your favorite park. This is also an opportunity for Instagram pictures! Just make sure it won’t be too hot of a day.

.

  • Volunteer at a Summer Camp

With a bit of research, you can work/volunteer at a camp for just about anything. From coding to volleyball, this is a great way to earn some service hours while having fun!

.

  • Have a Karaoke Night

For anyone who can (or can’t) sing, a karaoke party is always a fun time. Invite lots of friends, grab a speaker and microphone, and hold it in your backyard! You can kill time by decorating for this with neon lights, streamers, and plenty of glitter.

.

  • Bike a Nature Trail

There are all sorts of parks and nature centers in the area (some can be found in alternate post: ‘Why You Should Move To The Woodlands’). Bring your bike and plenty of water and enjoy the scenery while getting exercise. This is a good way to stay active in the off season!

.

  • Make Your Own Snow Cones

Pick up some flavored syrup and crunchy ice at the store, pull out your blender, and experiment with flavors and toppings. Combatting the heat is important! You could even start your own shaved ice business.

Most of these ideas can be used year-round, but they’re especially fun in the summer season. Make sure to take advantage of the sun before it’s winter again!
