Local Spring/Woodlands Texas Student Trends

With so much evolving technology and culture, keeping up with current trends can be overwhelming. To find out what’s ‘in,’ I surveyed students from Grand Oaks on their favorites. Here are the most common responses!

.

  • Movie Genre: Action

It is no surprise that with a plethora of Marvel movies and monthly Star Wars updates, students are partial to action movies. The consensus from those at Grand Oaks is that an exciting storyline, realistic special effects, and a compelling music score are the ways to catch a teenager’s attention.

  • Streaming Service: Netflix

Netflix features a large variety of trending shows and movies. As the classic go-to for a movie night or background watch, this streaming service easily won the vote.

  • Music Genre: Indie Pop

Indie-Pop features artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Mitski, and Lana Del Rey. The popularization of this sound, an experimental instrumental-heavy version of classic pop, is largely due to social media apps such as TikTok and Instagram.

  • App: Spotify

Spotify is the number one music streaming app in the nation. With the trending necessity to be constantly listening to music, most students listed the app as their most used, beating both Instagram and Snapchat.

  • Book Genre: Romance

Young adult (YA) romance novels are currently popular among teens. Students shared book recommendations such as: ‘It Ends With Us’ by Colleen Hoover, ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green, and ‘They Both Die at the End’ by Adam Silvera.

  • Fast Food Chain: Chick-Fil-A

Chick-Fil-A seems to be a staple in the diet of the American teen. The vote for this chain was almost unanimous: GOHS students like their chicken!

  • School Subject: Math

Most students listed math as their favorite subject due to its straightforwardness and use of analytical thinking.

  • Holiday: Christmas

Of the many students interviewed, only a few outliers didn’t pick Christmas as their favorite holiday. The general runners-up were Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and (interestingly) the Fourth of July.

  • Sport: Basketball

Sports are a vital aspect of culture in this area. Texas being Texas, it would be easy to assume that most teens would be football fans, but basketball takes the cake on this one!

  • Hobby: Intellectual

When asked about their hobbies, students generally listed something of an intellectual nature. These include cooking, crocheting, piano, and solving puzzles. All great ways to unwind after a long day of school!

So, there you have it! Today’s trends become tomorrow’s history. The students have spoken. Stay tuned for what is trending over the next 6 months.
